Après avoir enseigné pendant une quarantaine d’années au Royaume-Uni, Razia Alam, présidente de Maleka Welfare Trust, retourne dans son pays d’origine le Bangladesh, où elle décide de fonder une école pour enfants défavorisés.
Le projet
Le projet situé au Sud Karnachor, consiste en une structure modulaire, novatrice, incorporant des espaces pour une école maternelle, un dortoir, une crèche et un centre de formation, tout en étant adaptée au site fluvial inondé cinq mois par an. Plutôt que de perturber l’écosystème et utiliser les méthodes conventionnelles de surélévation du terrain, l’architecte a opté pour une construction amphibie à la fois ancrée dans le sol et capable de flotter en fonction des variations saisonnières.

«A l’heure du réchauffement climatique et de l’élévation du niveau de la mer, cette modeste école de bambou apporte une solution de construction économique et viable avec des matériaux disponibles localement.»
«L’approche adoptée pour la construction de l’école maternelle et de ses trois classes consiste en une structure qui s’adapte à l’environnement et s’élève en fonction du niveau de la rivière, permettant ainsi une utilisation ininterrompue du bâtiment pendant toute l’année. Ici, l’architecte propose, de façon remarquable et modeste, une solution innovante d’architecture amphibie tout en adoptant des méthodes de construction traditionnelles.»
«Par son approche technologique contextualisée et sa solution globale, ce projet à faible coût et impact sur l’environnement, est le fruit d’une collaboration entre architecte, client et entrepreneur. Il en résulte une démarche responsable et innovante tant dans son aspect social que technique.
«La modestie du programme, le choix des matériaux et la méthode de construction sont autant d’éléments qui ont contribué à la réussite de cette école amphibie, résultat d’un travail d’équipe expérimental et collaboratif. Bien que simple et compact, le projet est à même de résoudre des problèmes techniques complexes de flottabilité et d’ancrage, sans pour autant négliger la composante écologique et la gestion des déchets.»
